S-100 training is delivered over two full days: One day in the classroom (theory) and one day in the field (practical exercise). Upon completion of this course the participant will demonstrate a basic knowledge of the wildland fire suppression organizational structure, wildland fire environment, suppression and safety procedures and equipment used in British Columbia to effectively and safely respond as a basic wildland firefighter. The forest industry uses the S-100 course to train their workers. Industry training is due to the WorkSafeBC regulation that requires anyone fighting fires to be trained. WorkSafe BC Regulation 26.3.1 Forestry operation fire fighting requires that workers be trained annually to fight forest fires. Above training requirements also include contracted services used by the BC Wildfire Service must hold a current ticket in either S-100 or S-100A (annual recertification).
S-100 ALONE does not meet the requirements if your primary job is acting as a Wildland Firefighter. If you are seeking employment or employed as a Wildland Firefighter, S-100 (or annual re-currency S-100A) and S-185 are the required tickets/training.
S100 TICKET IS VALID FOR ONE YEAR. ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. RECERTIFICATION TICKET IS THE S-100A
OUT OF PROVINCE CERTIFICATION: To work as a Wildland Firefighter in the province of BC, you must hold a current valid BC certification in S-series training. Out of province certifications are not valid in BC. In rare cases where there is a specific need, the BC Wildfire Service may be open to reviewing training on a case-by-case basis.
